Broken sash cords are one of the most common problems with traditional timber sash windows.
I offer sash cord replacement and sash cord renewal in Eastbourne, Bexhill, Hastings and across East Sussex.
If your window suddenly drops, feels heavy, or will not stay open,
the cords may have snapped or the weights may need attention.
Sash Cord Replacement — Example Video
In this video I show the process of working on the sash weights and cords.
This is the part of the window most homeowners never see because it is hidden inside the box frame.
When the cords are renewed properly, the sash should move smoothly and safely again.
Common signs you need sash cord replacement
The sash drops suddenly
The window will not stay open
One side feels heavier than the other
You can see a broken cord
The sash jams or twists when moved
What I usually do
Remove the staff beads carefully
Take out the sash
Access the weights
Renew the cords
Check the pulleys
Rebalance the window
Refit and test the sash
I always check that the sash is balanced, safe, and moving properly before it is refitted.
If you have a sash window in Eastbourne, Bexhill, Hastings or elsewhere in East Sussex that has dropped, jammed, or stopped working properly, send me a few photos if you can and I’ll tell you what is likely to be involved.
